Aïcha Mosque

The Aïcha Mosque is the result of a fusion between Moroccan architectural tradition and a contemporary design language, with the goal of creating a place of worship that combines spirituality, identity, and the quality of space.
The project interprets the principles of Islamic architecture through a minimalist composition, based on balanced proportions, natural light, and the use of materials drawn from local building traditions. The design highlights Morocco’s artisanal heritage by incorporating sculpted plasterwork, zellige, stone, and wood, all crafted by skilled artisans who have helped give the building an authentic and timeless character.
The complex is organized around the main spaces dedicated to prayer and welcoming the community, offering bright, orderly, and easily recognizable environments. The minaret, a symbolic element of the project, draws on the tradition of Morocco’s great historic mosques, reinterpreting their proportions through a contemporary and restrained design language.
Particular attention was paid to the relationship between architecture and the urban context. The mosque is not merely a place of worship but a landmark for the neighborhood, capable of fostering encounters, social interaction, and a sense of community belonging.
With this project, AND Studio reaffirms its approach to international design: interpreting the culture and identity of places through contemporary architecture that respects traditions, engages with the local heritage, and highlights artisanal expertise as a fundamental element of the design process.
