Essaouira Pavilion
In the landscape of the Marrakech-Safi region, the Essaouira Pavilion is born as a light and compact architecture, capable of integrating into the land without interrupting its continuity. The project by And Studio Architects interprets the site through an essential, suspended, and elongated volume that rests on the landscape with balance and establishes a direct relationship between the interior, vegetation, and horizon.

The building is designed with a linear composition, defined by the juxtaposition of two distinct yet complementary parts. The first part, more closed and material, is clad in a dark skin with vertical slats that emphasize its compact character. The second part opens towards the landscape through a large projecting white volume, completed by a floor-to-ceiling window and a terrace protected by transparent parapets. The contrast between the dark mass and the light element creates a precise balance between protection and openness, shadow and light, grounding and suspension.
The structure combines elements of steel, concrete, and composite panels, while the wooden cladding of the facades introduces a tactile and natural dimension. The base, kept to the minimum thickness possible, allows the architecture to follow the morphology of the land and maintain the perception of a light body, almost resting on the existing stone walls. The latter are not treated as mere containment elements, but as an integral part of the landscape project, capable of organizing the soil and relating the new intervention to the constructive memory of the place.

Inside, the spaces are designed as essential and continuous environments. The large terminal opening becomes a true room with a view of the landscape: a deep seating area, integrated into the window alcove, transforms the view into a living experience and invites one to pause, read, and contemplate. Light enters in a controlled manner, passing through the wooden surfaces and creating a warm, quiet, and homely atmosphere.

The Essaouira Pavilion is thus a small observation device: an architecture that does not seek to impose itself, but to establish an intense relationship with the garden, the stone, the sky, and the vegetation. An intervention in which the contemporary language of And Studio Architects engages with the character of the Moroccan landscape, transforming the simplicity of the volume into an experience of light, material, and tranquility.
