We are proud to announce that the Piombino Port Waterfront Regeneration Project, designed by AND Studio Architects, has been selected for exhibition at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, one of the world’s most prestigious showcases for contemporary architecture.

Inside the Italian Pavilion, hosted in the evocative setting of the Tese delle Vergini at the Arsenale, the project is featured in the section dedicated to works either completed or currently under development, as part of the exhibition “TERRÆ AQUÆ”, curated by architect Guendalina Salimei.

The exhibition’s central theme explores the threshold between land and sea as both an environmental and cultural infrastructure—through data, artistic visions, and built projects. A true laboratory of urban, environmental, and social experimentation.

Our project was born in response to the desire to restore the port’s centrality, reimagining it as an urban device capable of redefining the boundary between land and sea, between infrastructure and landscape. The architecture adopts a chameleonic language—not to camouflage itself, but to absorb and reinterpret the complexity of the context. The maritime terminal, with its photovoltaic canopies, generates a rhythmic and active promenade, while the pilot tower becomes both a landmark and a vertical narrative of the territory.

The new pier sketches out an artificial landscape projecting beyond the coastline, crowned by a constellation of vertical steel elements clad in photovoltaic cells. These elements—varied in height and rhythm—form an energetic skin that filters the view of the industrial backdrop, creating a perceptual screen between city and port.

This is a project that does not repeat, but evolves; that does not decorate, but generates meaning.

In a time of great transformations, the Port of Piombino becomes a laboratory of possibilities: a place where the matter of water meets the collective intelligence of design.

📍 The exhibition will be open from May 10 to November 23, 2025, at the Italian Pavilion – Tese delle Vergini, Arsenale, Venice
